OUT OF THE SCABBARD

Out of the scabbard of the night,
  by God's hand drawn,

Flashes his shining sword of light,
  and lo, -the dawn!

  -Dawn by Frank Dempster Sherman

Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said:

"Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,

    when I made the clouds its garment

    and wrapped it in thick darkness,

    when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,

    when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;

    here is where your proud waves halt’?

“Have you ever given orders to the morning,

   or shown the dawn its place,

   that it might take the earth by the edges and

   shake the wicked out of it?

The earth takes shape like clay under a seal

   its features stand out like those of a garment.

JOB 38:8-14

In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,

like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;

nothing is hidden from its heat."

PSALM 19:4-6

Each day is resurrection through and through,
and earth a gravestone,
rolling all into cold shadow,
so that dawn's rays might awaken the soul,
being found naked and newly aware
that God is the joyful remover of grave clothes.

We are unwrapped and warmed by the Maker every...single...day. God give us eyes to see.

This post is dedicated to one of my spiritual fathers, the one Jesus loves, whose eternal thirst can be temporarily quenched by a good dawnscape. Thank you Papa, for John.
